Stay Committed: Why Tracking Progress and Reconnecting with Your “Why” Are Crucial 📖 – SHAF Coaching Newsletter

Happy Humpday – Happy New Year! 🥳
I hope you read last weeks newsletter and set New Year’s resolutions the right way!
Setting these goals is exciting, but staying committed can be a challenge as the weeks go on. If you want to make your goals last all year, focusing on two key strategies—tracking your progress and reconnecting with your “why”—can make all the difference. Here’s why I think these things are crucial to your success and how to implement them effectively.

1. Track Your Progress: Visualizing Wins Lead to Big Success

Why It Matters:
Seeing measurable progress keeps you motivated and helps you stay focused. Tracking progress turns intangible goals into tangible achievements. When you record each step forward, you’re building proof of your success—proof that fuels motivation to keep going.

How to Do It:

  • Use a Journal or App: Write down what you achieve daily or weekly, whether it’s steps walked, workouts completed, or meals prepped. Apps also make it easy to see your progress over time. In my coaching app for example you track all your workouts and you can synch other data such as steps and daily calories consumed from other apps.
  • Take Photos or Measurements: Especially for fitness or body-related goals, progress photos or measurements give a more accurate picture than a scale. I always advise my clients to take frequent pictures, because you see yourself daily in the mirror, which makes it more difficult to see changes over time.
  • Celebrate Milestones: Reward yourself when you reach key checkpoints—like completing a month of consistent workouts or hitting your first fitness milestone. These celebrations keep you energized and excited.

When you track your journey, you’re no longer focused solely on the end goal. Instead, you see every step forward, reminding you that each small win brings you closer to success.

2. Reconnect with Your “Why”: Find Your Inner Drive

Why It Matters:
Your “why” is your emotional anchor—the deeper reason behind your resolution. When motivation fades (and it will), your “why” is what keeps you committed. Without it, even the best plans can lose momentum. So I always remind my coachees to visualize their why.

How to Do It:

  • Write Down Your “Why”: Is it to feel healthier for your family? To gain confidence? To build strength and self-discipline? Write it somewhere visible, like on your fridge, mirror, or phone.
  • Visualize Your Goal: Close your eyes and imagine how achieving your resolution will make you feel. What will it change in your life? This practice can reignite your passion when the going gets tough.
  • Ask Yourself Regularly: Why did I start? Revisit this question whenever you feel like giving up. Your “why” is your compass, always pointing you toward your true goals.

Reconnecting with your “why” helps you push through moments of doubt. It transforms your resolution from just a task into a meaningful mission that aligns with your core values.

Tracking your progress and reconnecting with your “why” work hand in hand. Tracking shows you how far you’ve come, and your “why” reminds you why the journey matters. Together, they create a powerful feedback loop that keeps you moving forward, even when challenges arise.

You can do this! 💪🏼
